Our picks

These are the watches we keep recommending. Not "icons", not hype references — the specific examples that pass our brand bar and sit honestly on a wrist. One pick per (style × budget) cell.

Criteria

Our Brand Ranking weighs five things equally — history, identity, catalog, finishing, in-house capability. Our picks weight the same five, plus two more that pull more weight at the watch level: wearability and design. A reference can come from a Top-Notch maison and still miss this list because it doesn't sit on a wrist convincingly, or because its design solves no problem worth solving.

Hard cut-offs

Pulled from the geometry rules in our Collections starter. A watch that breaks any of these is not eligible — regardless of brand, finishing, or hype:

• Case diameter ≤ 42 mm
• Lug-to-lug ≤ 48 mm
• Thickness ≤ 13.5 mm

Price logic

For each pick we use whichever is lower between current retail and the secondary-market price for an example in very good condition with box and papers. A discontinued reference at $4,000 used wins over its $7,000 grey-market sibling. Brackets are in CHF; USD/EUR/GBP equivalents to follow.

Categories

Six headers, six different reasons to wear a watch:

• Field / Tool — robust, legible, ready for the day's work.
• GADA — go-anywhere, do-anything; one watch for everything.
• Summer — light cases, breathable straps, shorts and white linen.
• Dress — under a cuff, never above it.
• Complications — chronographs, GMTs, calendars, oddities.
• Art / Fun — design-led, conversation-led, or simply joyful.
